Half-term survival guide 2024

The perfect guide to activities and deals to help you survive half-term.

With half-term coming up, juggling the little ones while planning a week of activities, lunches, and dinners can get overwhelming. Luckily, we’ve done the hard part of finding some of the best activities so you can relax and enjoy the break together.

Bristol and the surrounding area

GLOW returns to Weston-Super-Mare across five nights (13 - 17 February) with magical light installations and artworks in Grove Park. Tickets are Pay What You Decide, and there will be additional must-see artworks and installations at key locations across the town.

Dorset

There are several free or budget-friendly events taking place during the half-term. At Durlston Country Park, drop into the Learning Centre on Wild Wednesday for free painting and activities, or take part in the Dinosaur Discovery Trail for £3.50 per trail pack. Or get crafty in Shaftesbury and make your own Snowdrop Festival Crown for free.

Gloucestershire

Transport your family back in time this February half-term at Holst Victorian House for an enriching experience catered to children of all ages.

Take a Medieval Tour of the Eastgate Chamber at the Museum of Gloucester and find out all about its history including the myths and superstitions surrounding it…

Nature in Art at Wallsworth Hall is the world's first museum and art gallery dedicated to art inspired by nature. They run creative art activities for children of all ages during the school holiday periods.

Wiltshire

Visit Chippenham Museum and find out about the history of the canal and join in with free family-friendly activities (booking is essential). Alternatively, visit Luma, a 9-metre-long snail at the STEAM Museum in Swindon.

Somerset

February is the start of Snowdrop Month, so come to Bishop's Place in Wells and enjoy these beautiful flowers in a stunning setting.

Home to more than 300 animals, the Ferne Animal Sanctuary is a great place to take the family this half term. Or discover colourful paintings and wooden sculptures (and decorate your very own wooden car) at The Museum of Somerset.

We hope this guide helps you plan your activities for the week in a budget-friendly way and have a happy half-term!
